Securing Social Security for All
Social Security is a promise we made to working Americans—and it’s one we need to keep. It’s not just a retirement benefit; it’s a lifeline for people with disabilities, for survivors, and for millions who worked hard and played by the rules. But today’s system doesn’t reflect today’s economy. Let’s fix that, together.
Eliminate the Payroll Tax Cap
Right now, people only pay Social Security taxes on income up to $160,200. That means someone making $1 million a year pays a smaller percentage of their income than a nurse or a school janitor. That’s not right. We’ll lift the cap so everyone pays their fair share—and Social Security stays strong for generations to come.
Include Gig and 1099 Workers Fairly
Millions of people—Uber drivers, delivery workers, freelancers—work hard without the protections or contributions traditional jobs offer. We’ll change that. Platform companies must contribute to Social Security, and we’ll make it easier for independent workers to do their part without getting buried in tax paperwork. If you work, you should be covered.
Oppose Raising the Retirement Age
Raising the retirement age is just a benefit cut, plain and simple. It hurts people in physically demanding jobs and communities with shorter life expectancies. We’ll fight to keep the retirement age right where it is—because you’ve earned your rest.
Boost Benefits for Caregivers and Low-Wage Workers
People who took time off to care for family or worked tough jobs that didn’t pay well still deserve security in retirement. We’ll make sure Social Security better reflects the real value of that work.
Fully Fund the Social Security Administration
People shouldn’t have to wait months for benefits or struggle to get questions answered. We’ll invest in the Social Security Administration so it works for the people it serves—with respect, speed, and dignity.
