Statement of Principle
Reproductive freedom isn’t just about abortion—it’s about dignity, healthcare, time, and the ability to raise a family on your own terms. Every person should have the right to decide whether and when to become a parent—and to be supported if they do. Government has no place in the exam room or the delivery room.
We never should have relied on the courts alone to protect this right. Congress should have acted decades ago. Now it’s on us to finish the job—with real legislation, not empty promises.
Core Commitments
Pass the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate in the developed world—and Black and Indigenous women are dying at 2–3 times the rate of white women. I support the full Momnibus package to invest in community-based care, eliminate racial bias in maternal health, expand support for mental health, and address the environmental and economic conditions that put women’s lives at risk.
Codify Roe v. Wade into federal law
I support the Women’s Health Protection Act and other legislation to restore abortion rights nationwide. No one’s rights should depend on their zip code.
Expand access to abortion care
Fully fund providers like Planned Parenthood. Support safe telehealth access. Repeal the Hyde Amendment so low-income people can access care through Medicaid. End medically unnecessary waiting periods, clinic closures, and other barriers.
Guarantee access to birth control, IVF, and fertility care
Access to contraception and fertility treatment must be protected against the rising wave of extremist court rulings and legislation. I support over-the-counter birth control and full coverage through insurance and public programs.
End the criminalization of care
Protect doctors, nurses, support staff, and patients from legal attacks—whether they’re providing care locally or helping someone travel for it.
Enact paid family leave—for all parents
Parenting should be a right, not a penalty. I support at least 12 weeks of guaranteed paid maternity and paternity leave so that all families—regardless of job or income—can start strong and stay healthy.
Invest in childcare and early childhood care
Reproductive freedom means the freedom to parent with dignity. That requires affordable, quality childcare, support for early learning, and recognition of caregivers as essential workers.
Protect stay-at-home parents through Social Security
No one should lose their retirement security because they stepped back from the workforce to raise kids. I support giving Social Security credit to stay-at-home parents—because caregiving is work.
What’s at Stake
The fall of Roe was just the beginning. Right now, extremist politicians are:
- - Proposing a national abortion ban
- - Attacking emergency contraception and IVF
- - Criminalizing patients, helpers, and doctors
- - Undermining public health programs and family support
This isn’t just about reproductive care—it’s about control. Control over your body. Your time. Your future. Your family.
My Pledge
I’m not here just to “protect Roe.” I’m here to go further—because the right to choose means nothing without the resources and respect to make that choice real.
That means abortion rights, yes—but also maternal health, parental leave, childcare, and long-overdue support for the people who do the hard work of raising families.
I’m Justin Ford, and I’m running for Congress in Illinois’ 9th District.
Let’s build a future where reproductive freedom means real freedom—and where every family has the time, care, and support they deserve.
Let’s get to work.
